Cristóbal P. Aldrete was born in Del Rio, Texas in 1924. He attended the University of Texas at Austin where he studied local government and where he was a founding member of the Alba Club. Aldrete went on to earn a law degree from South Texas College of Law in Houston. In 1954 he served as an attorney on behalf of the GI Forum in the landmark case of Hernandez v. State of Texas.
